All the news…take one

Dear friends,

As one of the many MILLIONS of American women who have had an abortion, I am of course appalled by the latest from SCOTUS: the anti-witch “precedent” cited by Justice Alito would be laughable if overturning Roe wouldn’t mean misery for so many women, and the way the decision would open the door to infringing on many more rights to privacy (men’s included) is horrifying.

Several years ago at the First Person Plural reading series in Harlem, I got to hear my friend Desiree Cooper read her first draft of “The Choice,” perfectly suited for the venue with the pronoun We.  I encourage you to view the award-winning film that she helped to produce to overcome the stigma and deepen the conversation on abortion.. Would that right-wing legislators had access to her depth of humanity.  It’s about seven minutes, including credits, link below.

Also below, this morning’s post from Heather Cox Richardson with her usual daily brilliance giving us in-depth historical context as well as ramifications for events in the news.

Finally, along the lines of “Don’t Mourn, Organize,” consider joining me tomorrow May 12 in a national election letter writing event with Vote Forward.  It’s about an hour on line with directions clearly given.  There are other dates and options, too.  I took a lot of pleasure in writing postcards to encourage voting in the 2020 election.  They’re non partisan, simply provide information with how and where to vote.  Link below….

Onward, with thanks for your kind attention!

Terry
